In this Tip we will explain how you under the Linux Distribution Ubuntu partition a hard disk. So you can have the operating system and data on your Computer is logically separate and secure.

So partitioning under Linux/Ubuntu your hard drive

Before you partition your hard disk, you should make sure that you have all important data saved. The next steps will erase the entire contents, so it is no longer accessible. Then open it in Ubuntu's built-in Tool, by clicking on the Dash icon and "disk management".
  1. Look in the section "memory" > "Local memory" of the hard disk you want to partition.
  2. About the Option in the "disks" > "disk unmount" ensure that the drive is no longer involved.
  3. Click on "format drive".
  4. You can choose between three schemes to decide. Once you have chosen, a message will appear for a short piece of Information, to which systems the partitioning is compatible.
  5. Tap on the "Format" button and confirm that you are really the hard disk want to delete.
  6. Click on the "Partition". Now determine the size of the Partition, file system, and a name. The Name may 16 letters often not exceed.
  7. You acknowledge and create additional partitions with the last two steps.
